SRI SRI YOGA

"Like a flower bud, human life has the potential to blossom fully. The blossoming of human potential to fullness, is yoga" --  H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Through enquiries about life, the ancient sages were able to reach a state of consciousness, in which the secrets of healthier, happier and more meaningful living, were revealed to them. The sages called these secret, sacred knowledge 'Yoga'.

Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word Yuj, meaning union the union of the individual consciousness with the universal consciousness. So, contrary to what is commonly believed, yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise. It is in fact the path to total harmony between body mind and spirit. It is the journey and the destination. Yoga is ancient wisdom for a healthier, happier and more peaceful way of living, which ultimately leads to Self-realization or union with the 'Self '.

Sri Sri Yoga is a prayerful discipline, which unites the body, breath and mind in awareness, and integrates elements from all the major paths of Yoga of Knowledge (Gnan Yoga), service (Karma Yoga) and devotion (Bhakti Yoga). While a combination of a gentle and vigorous series of asanas is taught for the well being of the body, an equal emphasis is placed on techniques that nurture the mind and spirit thus bringing one back to one's natural self and allowing all the virtues, one was born with, to flower.

On practicing Sri Sri Yoga, no doubt one's body feels healthier, more energetic and less prone to disease and the effects of everyday stress. However Sri Sri Yoga addresses more than just the body - it is purna or complete yoga. When there is too much importance given to physical flexibility, it results in the mind getting stuck at the physical level - a hindrance to spiritual growth. In the true practice of yoga, though the body is respected, there is an equal emphasis placed on the well-being of the mind and other hidden gifts of the human existence.

The quality of one's life is determined by the state of one's mind. This is why the wellness of mind and spirit are both given great importance in Sri Sri Yoga, enabling one to form a stronger and more loving connection with one's self, which in turn brings fulfillment meaning and purpose of life.
