RECOVERY FROM
EPILEPSY
"Aneka Janma Sampraapta Karma Bandha Vidaahine
Atma Gnyaana Pradaaneyna Tasmai Sri Gurave Namaha".
Meaning: The one who can help us free from the chain of karma
accumulated over several lives, by teaching us the knowledge of the self
(Atma Gnyaana), I worship such a Guru.
Epilepsy is a disorder of the nervous system, characterized by abnormal
electrical discharges in the brain similar to what is known as Seizure.
Although the symptoms vary depending on the part of the brain affected,
it usually creates odd sensations, uncontrollable muscle tremors,
violent behavior and loss of consciousness. As a repercussion of an
attack there may be injuries and bruises in different parts of the body,
especially in the lips, tongue and inner parts of the mouth mainly due
to chattering of teeth. A person with Epilepsy avoids social gatherings
and always remains depressed fearing about the next attack. The society
also looks at a person with Epilepsy as somebody obviously different and
that makes him feel disheartened.
Usually, Doctors treat Epilepsy primarily with seizure-preventing
medicines. But these seizure medications are not a cure; at best they
can control seizures in the majority of people with Epilepsy.
Recently in Coimbatore, by the divine grace of Gurudev, a miracle
happened in the life of Sri. S. Kalaiselvan, a 38 year old young man,
enabling him to surmount Epilepsy. We have an astounding healing
experience, which may bring cheer and hope to people living with
Epilepsy.
Sri. S. Kalaiselvan is a native of Kothagiri in the Nilgiris District
near Coimbatore. From his early child hood, he was suffering from
Epilepsy. For a few days every week, he would be compulsorily put on
sedatives due to violent behavior associated with seizure. Fainting,
falling down and hurting himself, were part of his routine. Sleepless
nights and poor memory added to his woes. He completed his graduation
in Arts and for some time worked in a transport office. In spite of
these obstacles, he got married and has a son aged around 8
years.Epilepsy not only brought about frequent disruptions to his work,
but also made him lose his valuable personal items like Cell phones,
wrist watches, gold rings and chains. More than this his son was very
much frightened to see him and avoided coming near him. Finally his
family members seeing his plight forced him to stay back at home.
For many years, he had been taking Gardinal 60 mg 4 tablets, Eptoin –
100 mg Calmpose intravenous injection 6 ml per day. He had undergone
shock treatment, EEG and ECG tests, C.T.Scan of the brain so many times
and visited almost all the big hospitals and consulted eminent
neurologists. Finally he gave up hope of getting a permanent cure. In
these 30 years his parents had spent nearly Rs.15.00 Lakhs for his
treatment. The agony was not only for Sri.Kalaiselvan but his entire
family.
Just a year ago his parents shifted him to Coimbatore, thinking that by
being away from the cold climate of Kothagiri, he could get some relief.
But the sufferings continued. Seeing his misery, Sri.Sivakumar, his
neighbor and a devoted AOL volunteer, motivated him to join the Art of
Living Part I Course. Hesitantly, he joined the course on 20TH June
2005 and the AOL Teacher Sri.Chandrasekarji got in depth details about
Sri.Kalaiselvan and his disorder. During the first 3 days his behavior
was natural on the fourth day it was his first "Sudarshan Kriya" and
that day also he was normal. But on the fifth day during the "Sudarshan
Kriya", the Teacher saw him struggling with his breath and immediately
started praying to Gurudev that nothing untoward should happen. Sitting
near Sri.kalaiselvan he was asking him to concentrate on his breath.
Visibly there were symptoms of another bout of seizure and the Teacher
had no clue. All he could
do was just surrender to Gurudev. Sri.Chandrasekarji recalls it as the
most unforgettable moment of his life. Gurudev's Grace took over, Sri.
Kalaiselvan not only regained consciousness after the Kriya, but also
shared his Sudarshan Kriya experience with other participants. According
to him at the end of the Kriya, he visualized so many images leaving his
body and a saint standing, beside him was saying "Now you are free from
all the botherations". That was on 24th June, 2005 and from then onwards
till this date he has not suffered from Epilepsy.
He went back to NIMHANS, where he was taking treatment in the neurology
Department and informed the Dean Dr. Gouri Devi about this.The Doctor is
convinced that there is a change in him and asked him to carry on with
the daily practice of Pranayama and Kriya and also continue the drugs.
His condition will be further reviewed after
another 3 months.
Sri. Kalaiselvan has been regular in attending weekly follow up Kriya
sessions, Satsangs and has been volunteering for AOL Part I Courses.
Recently he participated in the Advance Mediation Course held at Ashram
in the presence of Gurudev and is now in cloud nine telling everybody
how Gurudev gave him a hug and enquired about his health.
Gurudev's Divine Grace, has created the healing touch in the life of
Sri.Kalaiselvan for which he along with his family will be Grateful to
Gurudev for a life time. His son is now very close to him and the fear
has gone.
When he narrated me his healing experience, I was amazed by the amount
of grace our Divine Master has bestowed on him.
